Who is eddy?
Eddy isn't a who, but a what. An eddy is an upstream current, behind obstacles in the river.

The Despains (Chelsea's family) were on one of their first river trips back in the day. By a stroke of bad luck they lost some of their food to the river. The river will always claim something. Days later while trying to reach camp, they then got caught in a wicked eddy that would not let them break back into the main current. What is an eddy? An eddy is when water, as the river breaks around a corner, a rock, or any obstruction, flows counter current and back upstream. It forms a swirl. It can catch you and impede your downstream travel. It is sometimes a calm spot amid a rapid, behind a rock. A safe relief from the current. But this eddy simply held them tight. As they fought to break the eddyline and tensions were high, what should join them? But an apple from their lost food stores. The apple followed them through the eddy over and over again. After they finally broke into the current, the eddy was appropriately named "bad apple eddy".
Who We Are And Who We Were
Having a great enthusiasm for the water, Eric Newell started Cache Valley Canoe Rentals over a decade ago in his garage, with four canoes. Over the last few years he grew the business, providing a fun paddling experience for many people in Cache Valley. As it grew he eventually merged it with Black Canyon Guides, his paddling guide book. In 2017, he passed the torch of the rentals to three friends who share a love the outdoors and are committed to carry on his vision with that same enthusiasm.
Bad Apple Eddy is run by a couple of local outdoors enthusiasts who share a passion for helping others enjoy and spend time in nature.

We figure 25+ years means we’re locals. After running Powder Ridge Ski Touring for over a decade, Bad Apple seemed like a logical step to provide recreational opportunities in the warmer months.
